The water is dead calm, the sun is shining and we have a great day ahead. We made our way past several islands and through the very shallow Hichinbrook Channel to the cruise line’s private island, Pelorus. This beautiful place offers a great beach and wonderful snorkeling.
We spent the first hour snorkeling, looking for giant clams hiding in the coral. I lost count at 18! The crew set up lunch with white linen tablecloths and all the fancy things… and the Captain prepared an Aussie barbeque – sausages, steak, kangaroo, grilled onions, and veg burgers. All was accompanied by wonderful salads, bread, tea, and wine. As always, the crew waited on us as if we were royalty.
After lunch, we napped in the sun or shade, went back in the water for more snorkeling and swimming, and finally hopped on the glass bottom boat for a tour around. Great coral, beautiful fish, lots of fun. Check out the pictures!
Lindsay and I had a quick shower and attended the last of the many educational presentations about the reef, sea life, island ecosystems and more. All good and very interesting.
Dinner was special, and the crew surprised Lindsay with a wonderful raspberry cheesecake and a loud chorus of "Happy Birthday!" After dinner, it was passengers against crew in the reef quiz... Lea, the activities director claimed that the crew had never bothered to attend her presentation and so we would easily win! And we did. Great fun, and we took home the coveted Coral Princess Pen as the prize.
Back to the cabin to begin packing up -- we don't want to leave! Early to bed, because we have a special, early excursion in the morning!
