She woke up in the night, hot and sick – I found the motion sickness medicine and her acupressure wrist bands (glad I had those!) and stared the battle. What a trouper! Despite her being green around the gills, we’ve snorkeled (a lot, see the pictures!), taken a glass-bottom boat ride, touched and held some sea creatures, napped, and then gone on to Dunk Island.
Lindsay was unable to keep any food down and spent some time napping. The staff was wonderfully attentive, offering advice and ginger ale. Most importantly, they thought she would feel better after a couple of hours on dry land at Dunk Island, and then should take her seasick medicine before returning to the boat… and that our itinerary for the evening was to move to calm water and stay there. The captain also made sure the air conditioning was working properly so we wouldn’t be hot in the night. They told us that being hot makes motion sickness worse…
We arrived at Dunk Island and went for a short educational walk through the rainforest. HOT HOT HOT HUMID HUMID HUMID HOT HOT HOT Lindsay looked like she would pass out. We finished the walk and made a beeline for the resort where we got her water and 7-up and crackers. We both napped on lounge chairs in the breezy shade on the beach and everyone felt much better. L took those pills before returning to the boat, and then everything was fine.
While enjoying a cocktail before dinner (not Lindsay – still not feeling up to that!) we brought out the LeftCenterRight dice game and taught our new Australian friends how to play. All, especially the captain and crew, thought it was the perfect game for the boat!
We had a fancy dinner with the Captain and Lindsay even ate! We watched a slide show of underwater photos taken by our activities director and then another early to bed. We’ve been turning in by 9p and sleeping soundly til morning. I don’t think Lindsay has had this much sleep since 7th grade. She hasn’t even heard the big rainstorms we have every night.
The cabin is nice and cool and the water is calm. We think it will be a good night.
