2. We made it to Cairns!

Yep, we're here! Our luggage was delayed, but more on that later....

The flight was long, but not awful. We sat in row 53 -- imagine our surprise when we discovered that we were not at the back of the plane... 75 rows of happy travelers headed to Brisbane from LA. The rows were a little cramped - watching the seat-back TV was tricky since it was inches from your nose once the guy in front of you reclined his seat!
Food was good, beer and wine was included. Yea! The flight attendant, Bob, told Lindsay she looks JUST like Marcia Brady and called her Marcia throughout the flight. Finally, a sick person on the plane brought the quarantine crew on board before anyone could deplane... but in the end, all ok.
BUT, the quarantine crew made us a bit late and so we rushed through customs where we were scanned by the newest technology for detecting contraband... beagles! We rushed to our connecting flight and made it, just barely, but our bags did not. Qantas promised they would be on the next flight and would be delivered to the hotel by 5 pm... (and they were!)
We arrived at the hotel, hot and sweaty, too early to check in. We ducked into the lobby toliet and made a quick change from winter to summer clothes, left our bags, and walked through Cairns. We saw much shopping, the swimming lagoon at the Esplanade, the marina full of boats, and many restaurants. We even found the Cruise Liner Wharf where we will meet our ship tomorrow! Lindsay took many pictures, and I've would include them here but the internet connection is sooooo slllllooooowwwwwww.

We made one last stop at the bottle shop for the necessties... beer, wine, whiskey. Then off to our hotel before we died of heatstroke. We headed to the rooftop pool to cool off before our bags arrived and we would be able to dress for dinner.
Pool was nice, room is nice, bags have arrived, and we're thinking Morroccan for dinner with a marina view.
A great first day in Australia! Can't wait for the snorkeling adventure tomorrow!
